Tongits Online — The Same Game You Love, With Real Rewards

There's something about Tongits that feels uniquely Filipino. It's not a game you import from somewhere else — it grew right here, played on floors and tables across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Every Filipino who's spent time around a card table knows the rhythm of it: the careful draws, the calculated discards, the moment someone lays down a meld and shifts the whole balance of the game.

Spurt Plus brings all of that online. The rules are the same ones you know. The feel of the game — the reads, the bluffs, the patience — is all there. What's different is that you can now sit down at a table from Siargao or Tagaytay or wherever you happen to be, play against real opponents, and have your winnings sent straight to your GCash or Maya wallet when you're done.

Whether you're a seasoned Tongits player who knows every strategy, or someone who picked up the basics from their family and wants to take it further, Spurt Plus has a table that fits your level. Low-stakes tables for relaxed sessions, higher-stakes rooms for players who want more skin in the game.

Melds, Sets & Sequences – Tongits Hand Types Explained

Tongits is built around forming valid combinations from your 13-card hand. Here are the core hand types you'll be working with on every Spurt Plus table.

Three of a Kind (Set)

Three cards of the same rank, regardless of suit. For example: three Kings or three 7s. One of the most common and reliable melds to build toward in the early game.

3 cards · same rank

Four of a Kind (Set)

All four cards of the same rank across every suit. Laying this down is a strong move — it drops a significant number of dead points from your hand in one go.

4 cards · same rank

Sequence (Run)

Three or more consecutive cards of the same suit. A♠-2♠-3♠ or 8♥-9♥-10♥ are classic examples. Sequences are the backbone of any strong Tongits hand build.

Extending a Meld

You can add cards to an existing meld on the table — either your own or another player's. This is called "sapaw" and is a crucial tactical option when you're holding cards that fit but can't form a full new meld on their own.

Tongits Rules — A Full Walkthrough for New and Returning Players

Tongits is played with three players and a standard 52-card deck. If you already know the game, feel free to jump straight into a Spurt Plus table. If you need a refresher, here's how a round works from deal to finish.

1
The Deal

The dealer receives 13 cards; the other two players receive 12 cards each. The remaining cards form the draw pile in the centre. The dealer goes first by discarding one card to begin the discard pile.

2
Drawing a Card

On your turn, draw the top card from either the draw pile or the discard pile. You must then discard one card to the discard pile to end your turn, keeping your hand at the same card count.

3
Laying Down Melds

At any point during your turn, before or after drawing, you can lay down valid card combinations (sets or sequences) face-up on the table. These cards are now "out" and no longer count toward your hand total.

4
Sapaw — Extending Melds

If you hold a card that legally extends a meld already on the table (yours or an opponent's), you can add it during your turn. This is called sapaw and is a key way to shed high-value cards you can't form into a full new meld.

5
Winning the Round

There are three ways to end a round: Tongits (emptying your entire hand), Fight (calling a showdown when no one has drawn from the pile for a while), or the draw pile running out — in which case the player with the lowest point total in hand wins.

6
Scoring

Cards remaining in your hand at the end of a round carry point values. Face cards and 10s count as 10 points. Aces are 1 point. Number cards count at face value. The player who wins the round earns chips from the others based on the point differential.

Point Values and How Winning Payouts Work

The scoring system is what makes Tongits strategic — you're not just trying to win rounds, you're trying to win them with as few leftover points in hand as possible. Here's the full breakdown of card point values and how the payout structure works on Spurt Plus tables.

Card Point Value Notes
Ace (A) 1 point Lowest value card — ideal to hold late game
2 through 9 Face value 2 = 2 pts, 3 = 3 pts … 9 = 9 pts
10, Jack, Queen, King 10 points each High-value — prioritise melding or discarding these
Tongits (empty hand) Double payout Win with zero cards in hand — maximum reward
Fight winner (lowest total) Standard payout Wins the pot based on point difference vs opponents
Draw pile exhausted Lowest total wins The player with fewest leftover points takes the round

On Spurt Plus, each table has a fixed buy-in and pot structure. Winnings are credited to your wallet instantly when a round concludes. The better you manage your hand points, the more consistently you'll come out ahead over a session.

Tongits Strategy – How to Improve Your Game

Tongits rewards skill and observation. These are the approaches that experienced Spurt Plus players use to get an edge at the table.

Build Your Melds From the First Draw

In the early game, focus on identifying which melds are within reach from your starting hand. Sort your 13 cards mentally into potential sets and sequences. Face cards and 10s are your biggest risk — if you can't see a clear path to melding them in the first few turns, consider discarding them early before your opponents can benefit from the discard pile.

Don't be too greedy trying to hold multiple half-formed melds at once. Committing to two solid meld paths early is better than juggling four incomplete ones. The player who melds fastest usually controls the pace of the round.

Watch What Your Opponents Are Melding

By the mid game, you'll have a clearer picture of what your opponents are building. Pay close attention to what they're picking up from the discard pile — this tells you what they need. If someone picks up a 7 of spades, they're likely building toward a run in spades or a set of 7s. Holding cards that feed their melds is working against you.

Mid game is also when sapaw becomes most useful. If you have a card that extends an existing meld on the table, playing it is often better than holding a dead card that sits in your hand accumulating points.

Minimise Your Hand Points, Not Just Your Card Count

In the late game, the draw pile is shrinking. If a Tongits win looks out of reach, shift your focus to reducing the point value of your remaining hand rather than just the number of cards. Discarding a 10-point face card you can't meld is more valuable than discarding a 2 or 3 at this stage.

Be aware of Fight timing. If your hand total is low and the draw pile is nearly gone, you may benefit from triggering a Fight before an opponent who's been quietly melding can reduce their hand further. Timing a Fight call correctly is one of the most impactful decisions in a Tongits round.

Feed Yourself, Not Your Opponents

The discard pile is public information — every card you discard is potentially useful to the next player. Try to discard cards that are least likely to complete a meld for your opponents. If you can see that an opponent has already melded two 9s, discarding your third 9 is feeding them a Four of a Kind set for free.

Sometimes it's worth holding a slightly less useful card to avoid handing a key piece to your opponent. This kind of defensive discarding separates casual players from consistently strong Tongits performers on Spurt Plus tables.

Calling a Fight: Timing is Everything

A Fight can only be called when a player declines to draw from the draw pile. It triggers an immediate showdown where all players reveal their remaining hand points. The player with the lowest total wins.

Call a Fight when: your hand total is low and stable, one opponent has clearly been struggling to meld, or the game is dragging and you're confident you have the lowest hand. Don't call it speculatively — if your opponents have been steadily melding, there's a real chance one of them has a lower total than it looks. On Spurt Plus, watching meld patterns throughout the round gives you the data to make this decision confidently.
